What size bat do you need?
Match a bat to height and reach, and see why the size a player wanted last season is rarely the right one now.
Find your sizeMeasure your chest at the widest point, keeping the tape level and snug but not tight. If you are between two sizes, see the note under each table.
| Size | Chest (in) | Chest (cm) | Typical height |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 34 – 36 | 86 – 91 | 5'4" – 5'7" |
| M | 38 – 40 | 97 – 102 | 5'7" – 5'10" |
| L | 40 – 42 | 102 – 107 | 5'9" – 6'0" |
| XL | 44 – 46 | 112 – 117 | 6'0" – 6'2" |
| XXL | 48 – 50 | 122 – 127 | 6'1" and above |
Between sizes? Take the larger one for match shirts and trousers — you want room to move through a shot. Take the smaller one for compression layers, which are meant to sit tight against the skin.
| Size | Waist (in) | Waist (cm) |
|---|---|---|
| S | 28 – 30 | 71 – 76 |
| M | 32 – 34 | 81 – 86 |
| L | 34 – 36 | 86 – 91 |
| XL | 38 – 40 | 97 – 102 |
| XXL | 42 – 44 | 107 – 112 |
Cricket trousers are cut generously through the thigh to clear pads. If you wear thigh guards under them, and most batters do, take the larger size.
| Size | Height | Chest (in) | Roughly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Junior XS | 4'0" – 4'3" | 24 – 26 | Ages 7 – 8 |
| Junior S | 4'3" – 4'7" | 26 – 28 | Ages 9 – 10 |
| Junior M | 4'7" – 4'11" | 28 – 30 | Ages 11 – 12 |
| Junior L | 4'11" – 5'3" | 30 – 32 | Ages 13 – 14 |
| Youth | 5'3" – 5'6" | 32 – 34 | Ages 14 – 15 |
A word on buying big. It is tempting to size up so it lasts two seasons. Do not do it with match kit — a shirt that hangs off a young player catches on the bat and they end up fighting their own clothes. Size up on training wear instead, where it does not matter.
Compression layers do three things in this climate. They wick sweat off the skin so a shirt does not cling. They take the friction under pads and thigh guards, which is where chafing starts on a long innings. And the light pressure helps with muscle fatigue over a full day in the field.
Long sleeve — sun protection through a full day in the field, and what most bowlers prefer. Short sleeve — cooler, better under a match shirt in the hottest part of the season. Long tights — for batters, under trousers, where thigh and knee pads rub. Short tights — general training and fielding.
Compression sizing runs to the same chest measurements as the adult table. When between sizes, take the smaller.
| Size | Head circumference |
|---|---|
| Small | 54 – 56 cm |
| Medium | 56 – 58 cm |
| Large | 58 – 60 cm |
| X-Large | 60 – 62 cm |
Brimmers and caps generally run one-size with an adjustable strap. Helmets do not — for those, see the sizing section on any helmet product page, and size down rather than up if you fall between. A helmet that shifts when the head turns is not protecting anyone.
